SIR: We are tracing our family history and if any reader of this letter is named or has any ancestors with the surname VENN we would be pleased to hear from them.
We are seeking people descended or related to our grandfather Theophilus Henry Venn, born 1846 and keeper of a temperance hotel at 57, Newport Street, Bolton, between 1878 and 1885. His first wife Susannah died aged 36 in September 1881 leaving him with six children. He remarried in July,1882, to a Lydia Redrobe and at least one child of that marriage, a daughter, was born in September,1883, in Bolton, before they left for Liverpool circa 1885.
Some of the children of the first marriage may well have stayed with relatives, possibly with the name Hamer in Bolton.
Furthermore, the eldest son, Theophilus Richard, married a Mary Loukes in Bolton in 1892. They had five children, including Susannah, born 1893, William born 1895 and Laura born 1904, of whom William had a son named Frank, born in 1922. Any correspondence appreciated and acknowledged.
