GUN enthusiasts have been told to follow the lead of football fans and accept restrictions on their favourite sport to avoid future tragedy.
Worsley MP Terry Lewis has told the Commons that soccer supporters have put up with the abolition of the terraces at grounds because of the Hillsborough disaster.
And he urged shooting enthusiasts to accept controls on hand guns to avoid any repeat of the Hungerford and Dunblane massacres.
Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers fan Mr Lewis has been campaigning for some time on restrictions on handgun ownership after several legally held weapons in the Bolton area were stolen from the owners' homes and used by criminals.
