A SCHOOL has launched an internal investigation after a pupil was shot in the head.
As reported in later editions of last night's BEN a boy, aged 13, was taken to Bolton Royal Infirmary yesterday from George Tomlinson School, Springfield Road, Kearsley.
Head-teacher Tony Buckley said: "An air-gun was brought into school by a pupil, completely against strict school rules. Unfortunately a lower school pupil was hit on the side of the head when a pellet was discharged."
Police interviewed two lower school pupils in connection with the incident. The pupil received stitches to his head but was released from hospital and is expected back in school today.
Mr Buckley added: "Fortunately it was not as bad as many of us first feared. We will be conducting our own investigation in addition to the police. And if it is felt appropriate strict disciplinary action will be taken." The two pupils were released after questioning and investigations were continuing today.
