A NEW service at Bolton's Debenhams store in The Market Place should take a large amount of worry out of weddings.
The store has launched a wedding gift service, appointing Liz Ewins, Pam Carless and Nicola Westwell to run it.
The happy couple simply register with them at the upper ground floor office, next to Customer Services, any time up to a year before the actual day.
The couple are given a pack which includes a list of items they're likely to need. The couple go round the store filling in the details and the list is lodged in the store's computer.
Wedding guests can go into the store, use a "touch" computer to call up the list and select what they want to buy. Items are shown by cost and individually to make selection simple, and anyone unused to computers can get help from Liz, Pam and Nicola.
The couple can add items or remove them and they can call in to find out how their list is going.
There's the offer of an in-store beauty treatment for the bride when you register, and the store gives the couple 5pc of the value of gifts purchased in Debenhams gift vouchers as their own wedding present! Liz and Co report a good response from customers who find the system easily takes the hassle out of list-making and checking for the wedding couple, and gift-searching for the guests.
If items are not available at the Bolton store, the advisers can order them.
Who said weddings were always fraught with problems?
