SASA Curcic has kicked off a breathtaking round of international duties as Yugoslavia make up for lost time as a world force in football.
Wanderers' super Serb is currently in Tokyo for a two-match flying visit, taking in games against Mexico and Japan in preparation for Yugoslavia's World Cup qualifier against Malta in Belgrade on Sunday, June 2.
Two days later, the Yugoslav squad heads east again for an international tournament in China.
Yugoslavia, subjected to sanctions for four years as a consequence of the civil war, were welcomed back onto the world scene last month when they beat the Faroe Isles in a World Cup qualifier. Curcic is one of four Burnden players on international alert. Gudni Bergsson will play for Iceland in a World Cup qualifier at home to Macedonia on Saturday, June 1 and will stay on for a friendly against Cyprus on June 5.
And Gerry Taggart and Aidan Davison join up with the Northern Ireland squad on Sunday for next Wednesday's friendly against Germany in Belfast.
