THE Horwich Golf club season started on a bright note with most of the early competitions being sponsored by local companies.
In the first round of the Coronation Cup, sponsored by Jorgus Carpets, former captain R Forrest won the first division with 78-14-64, while the 2nd division winner was M Brownlow 85-19-66.
The second round of the Coronation Cup and the Honda Qualifier was won by Mr Swailes 73-13-60 with R Haydock 83-19-64 taking the second division. The qualifiers for the Honda section were father and son D & C Mulligan with a combined score of 136.
The Thwaites 4BBB medal was won by another father and son combination of S & A Clowe with a 63, in second place was K Gelding and H Dyke with a 64. The John Banks Trophy went to S Brown 81-17-64, the winner on a cpo with A Clare 73-9-64.
The club's Presidents Prize was won by J Wolfendale 72-9-63. Runner up S Crawshaw 83-19-64 won a £25 voucher and in third place was T Grounds 76-11-65.
An 18 hole medal sponsored by BSB Engraving was won by C Cork 76-18-58, R Banning was runner up with 76-13-63, both won engraved goblets presented by the sponsor.
