LABOUR chiefs are demanding a public apology from Liberal Democrats following a local election row.
They claim the Liberal Democrats gave false information in a leaflet distributed in Clayton in the run-up to last month's borough elections.
Last week's full council voted to exclude Liberal Democrat councillors from representing the borough on outside bodies in a surprise proposal.
Council leader John Wilson wants an apology to both Clayton residents and the council and will meet local Liberal Democrat leaders this week.
One item accused the council of not spending enough on Clayton play areas. Mr Wilson described the leaflet as "a catalogue of lies."
Liberal Democrat councillor Ken Ball said: "The Clayton ward is now checking the facts and figures. If they are found to be wrong, we will apologise, if not, then we will stand by our original information."
