DONATIONS to Bolton charity shops could be storing up trouble instead of helping the needy, a local councillor has warned.
Cllr Paul Perry, who works with the Salvation Army, has urged people not to leave bags of clothes in front of charity shops outside working hours.
He said: "Some vandals started a fire in bags outside the Salvation Army shop in Deansgate. Fortunately it was spotted quickly and put out but it could have been much worse. "Obviously we are really grateful for all the donations but I would appeal for people to bring them during normal daytime shop hours."
He added that goods can be collected if people phone the Salvation Army shop on Bolton 366931 or 522311 and ask for Cllr Perry.
