A LANDSCAPE gardener who learned his trade on a Bolton golf course has struck gold at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Former Farnworth Grammar School pupil Chris Stones, 36, who is joint owner of Landmark Design and Build Ltd earned a gold medal in the external gardens section.
Chris developed his green fingered skills as a green keeper at Harwood Golf Club and has now graduated to design gardens for a range of celebrities including golfer Nick Faldo.
He now runs the business in Surrey with former college friend Mark Gregory. The firm has also designed gardens for the Ideal Home Exhibition.
All his family still live in Kearsley and his mum Rita said: "We're really proud of him for achieving this."
