CIVIC Medals are to be awarded by Horwich Town Council in recognition of service to the community.
At the same time, the council has agreed to honour past town mayoresses by presenting a medal to mark their year in office. At present only the retiring mayor receives a memento, but from this year onwards the mayoress will also be given a special reminder of her year's service. Members of the Council's Finance and General Purposes Committee agreed that one design of medal, at an estimated cost of £57 be bought without the words 'Past Mayoress' engraved on it, and to use it as a dual purpose medal for service to the community.
The Council is also to write to all previous town mayors giving them the opportunity to buy a medal for their mayoress.
