Little Hulton tenants are to have a say in Salford City Council's ambitious plans to revamp their area.

Housing chiefs have put forward two proposals with private sector partners to improve the quality of housing in the area, including the local environment.

If plans are accepted the council, a local housing association and private builder will join forces to provide homes to rent and low cost houses for sale.

Housing chiefs are determined the local community will be fully consulted on all future plans for Little Hulton and their views will be taken into account when plans are drawn up.

The council is now writing to all local residents affected by new plans, including homeowners.

The proposed sale of a pocket of properties around empty unpopular flats to Bellways Homes would create 150 new low cost homes, with potentially many more to follow.

Bellways would finance the scheme with a bid to the Government's English Partnership fund. Although many of these properties are empty, some tenants would be rehoused by the council with full compensation.

And Manchester Methodist Housing Association will convert the cottage flats into houses.

Housing chairman, Cllr David Lancaster said: "There is a need for low cost houses for first time buyers in this area. The sale to Bellways would also enable us to finance important improvements in the local area.
