GREENMOUNT and Walkden were involved in a Bolton League thriller that ended with only four runs separating the two sides.
Pro Andy Williams gave Greenmount a fine start with 87 and although Bernard Reidy and John Smith each took four wickets, a late flurry of runs from Mark Stewart took them to 172.
The Walkden innings was almost a mirror image of the home side but without the late flourish.
Stewart and Brett Collins each had four wickets and Reidy was unbeaten on 58 but with two overs left he failed to keep the strike and Greenmount managed to take the wicket of last man Paul Rushton to clinch winning points. Tonge hit the day's top score of 208-6 but it only brought them a draw at Farnworth Social Circle. Simon Anderton cracked 75 and Nigel Partington 55 while Dean Eckersley's unbeaten 63 helped Circle force the draw at 137-5. Top Tonge bowler was Ian Taylor who had 3-26 off 21 overs.
