A BOLTON man was left for dead by a hit-and-run motorist who left him bleeding by the roadside.
Darren Hill, aged 20, of Deane Walk, Bolton, was found unconscious with head, back and leg injuries in Bridgeman Street at 2 am on Sunday.
Ambulance paramedics treated Mr Hill at the scene before taking him to Bolton General Hospital where he was still detained this lunchtime.
Police initially were unable to establish whether or not Mr Hill had been attacked or was the victim of a road accident. They now say his injuries are consistent with him being involved in an accident with a car.
Detectives were not able to fully interview Mr Hill in hospital yesterday. He was drifting in and out of consciousness with his family at his bedside.
Mr Hill is understood to live in Deane Walk with his mother.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Bolton Police on 0161 872 5050.
All calls will be treated in confidence.
