SIR: Pre-school age is when parents have the most influence on how their children's characters develop. The results will fashion the way that the child will, in turn relate to friends, family and society itself.

Children are the world's greatest resource and it would do well to train them in the right way, for they are the future. Children learn by example.

A loving home and family will assist a child to grow up with a background of security and respect for others.

Good parents never restrain themselves from showing that love for a child in a physical sense. Hugs are important and help a child feel secure. A young child really appreciates having a parent's entire attention, even if it is for a short period of time. Parents fulfil spiritual and moral needs by their example and by teaching a young child right and wrong in a consistent manner. A young child needs to learn discipline; it will be happier when it knows that there are limits to its behaviour.

Parents should provide an environment where early learning is possible. A child needs to learn respect for life, property, the environment and authority.

Without children properly nurtured by loving parents, there will be no viable future only chaos and anarchy.
