EVENING only part-time classes leading to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building are to be introduced in September at Bolton Institute's School of Civil Engineering and Building.
"Given the very competitive environment in which the building industry has to operate, we feel there is a need for evening only classes to run alongside our day-release part-time courses," said Alan Cornthwaite, Joint Acting Head of School.
"These courses will cater for employees who cannot get time off and for self employed people who cannot afford to lose a full working day. They may also appeal to employees who want to keep themselves up-to-date with modern developments," he added.
People with HNC will also be able to use the evening course to "top up" their qualifications to Higher National Diploma level. The School will also offer a course leading to HNC by full time study for one year instead of the more conventional two years part-time.
Mr Cornthwaite said this innovation was intended to cater for unemployed building operatives and others with experience of the industry.
Other new courses to be offered at the start of the new academic year will include a BSc (Honours) degree in Building Surveying (full or part-time) and a BSc (Honours) course in Civil Engineering (full-time).
