AN all-round increase in railway fares and railway freights of 16 per cent is to be announced at once by Mr Alred Barnes, Minister of Transport. This will mean that workmen's fares will rise by from 6d to 1s 6d a week, according to the length of journey. No-one using workmen's tickets on the railway will find his travelling expenses more than 1s 6d a week greater. So that the cost of living index figure shall remain unchanged, the Government have decided to make small reductions in the price of certain foods. As a result the average person's weekly budget will be the same as before.

They drove to the several hydrants in the main thoroughfares, unharnessed the horse, got the engine to work, and one jet in full play. This they accomplished several times under the minute. If the trial had no other issue, it will tend in a great measure to impart a sense of security to the many inhabitants who watched the interesting experiment.
