A BOLTON duo are putting their faith in a classy Alfa Romeo in one of the toughest car rallies on the sporting calendar.
Veteran car enthusiasts Tom Warburton and Jim Youd are competing in the Rallye de los Pirineos Y Picos de Europa from June 18 to 24 which takes in some of the highest peaks in the Pyrenees.
The two, who are members of Bolton le Moors Car Club, will tackle some of Spain's highest peaks including El Pico de Aneto at 3,404 metres, Tres Sorores at 3,355 metres and Posets at 3,375 metres.
With breathtaking views of granite and limestone massifs, deep ravines and cliffs which attract Eagles and vultures, the rally is regarded as one of the most challenging in the veteran car calendar.
Entries from as far afield as Argentina, Austria, Portugal and England have been registered and the rally will feature some of the world's top cars.
Jaguars, Ferraris, Mercedes and the MG Mini are all set to compete, plus Tom and Jim's 1750cc Alfa Romeo Spider.
The Italian car, built in 1968, has been prepared for its task by Peter and Simon West of Westone Auto Services, Horwich.
