THERE has been so much publicity about bullying in schools, it's hard to believe that some teachers are ignoring youngsters' torment.
But according to a new report published by ChildLine, that is exactly what is happening. Apparently children are turning to Childline because their cries for help are being ignored at school.
Perhaps these schools who are not always protecting their pupils as well as they ought, should emulate Withins School, Bolton. It has drawn up its own policy to tackle the bullying problem. And last year Bolton council, with voluntary and other groups, organised the Bullybusters project aimed at reducing bullying.
While there is no room for complacency, it seems that here in Bolton we are not ignoring the issue.
As a ChildLine Spokesman points out, because one generation after another has experienced bullying, that is no reason to expect children these days to endure it.
