SIR: On Saturday June 15, Vision Aid, the Bolton based charity supporting blind and visually impaired children, will be holding a street collection in Bolton town centre, and I would appeal to your readers to support our efforts by acting as collectors on this occasion.
Since the opening of our extended Family Support Unit last summer the number of families approaching Vision Aid for help has increased beyond all expectations, and the number of visitors to the Vision Aid Centre has doubled. The proceeds from the street collection play a major part in our ability to maintain the quite unique range of free services we are now able to offer to the children and families concerned and its success depends to a large extent on the number of volunteers willing to assist with the collection.
May I ask any of your readers who feel they would like to join in our efforts on behalf of visually impaired children to offer their help on June 15. The collection will take place from 9am to 5.30pm and further details can be obtained by ringing Vision Aid on 01204 531882. Helpers can also come along to the Control Point which will be set up in Victoria Square, near to the Chadwick Memorial.
Support at any period of the day, no matter how short, will be greatly appreciated.
