MR Bevin, Foreign Secretary, opening the debate on foreign affairs in the Commons this afternoon, said it was not merely one area of the world that was in difficulties, where problems had to be settled; it was the whole world. "The road of peacemaking is a very hard one," he declared, "especially when complicated by varying political conceptions of different countries, and the settlement of differences is often handicapped by the desire to secure adoption of a particular ideology."
