DAD'S Army would have been delighted. North Turton councillors have asked National Heritage to put a Second World War pill box , which has stood guard over Chapeltown Road for more than 50 years, on its roll of listed buildings.
Who knows, if Hitler's lot had landed here, that little piece of local history might have played a vital role in stopping his panzers as they advanced on Turton Tower. Let's hope the Trust backs the idea.
