Brook close in on title

In the top division, leading mixed team Holcombe Brook 'A' visited second placed Markland Hill 'A' and inflicted an emphatic 61-42 defeat on them.

The visitors won all the mixed sets and dropped only one set in each of the other events. S.Denner and V.Caddick were the stars for Holcombe winning all their matches on the night.

The win puts Holcombe into a strong position with a four point lead for the remaining three matches.

Several missing match cards from Division Two make reading these places difficult but, currently Meadow Hill 'A' lead and Lostock 'B' are second.

Hawkshaw 'B' are riding high in Division Three following their decisive 72-28 defeat of Halliwell Road Meth's 'A' and, as a result, keep a six point lead over Claremont and Markland Hill 'C'.

There was an amazing result in Division Four where top team Longsight Meth's 'B' crashed to a shock defeat by next-to-bottom team Bradshaw 'B'.

In an all-action match the two teams were level pegging after the mixed sets but then the Longsight ladies then set about the Bradshaw ladies in no uncertain terms.

Epic encounter

A Waddicar and G.Gittins won all their sets and S.McClelland and I.Kilburn beat Bradshaw's P.Kershaw and M.Mullarky 6-2 but in an epic encounter lost to Bradshaw's D.Yardley and S.Moore.

However, the Bradshaw men reversed the luck and won all four sets to 6-3 scorelines to snatch an incredible victory which brings the Lostock and Hawkshaw 'C' teams into contention for Longsight's top place.

Guildhall look to be the team to beat in Division Five and, following their 65-34 win at Markland Hill 'E', now lead Walmer 'B' by three points.

However, the Walmer 'B' team did their own version of giant killing and beat second placed Meadow Hill 'B' which resulted in them moving up four places in the division to take second spot for themselves.

In the mixed sets Walmer had a handsome lead but squandered this in the ladies sets when only B.Richards and K.Ryder won their only points.

The Walmer men, however, had other ideas and captains couple Hartfield and Fairhurst and Nuttall and Slater won all their sets to clinch an important 65-41 victory.

As far as the Division Six championship goes it is decided between Halliwell Road Meth's 'B' and Hawkshaw 'D' who are currently separated by two points.

The Meth's team can be considered slight favourites to take the title as they have an impressive record being both undefeated so far this season and having one of the best points scoring records second only to Holcombe Brook 'A'.

An experienced Hawkshaw team is chasing them and they need to maintain their standard if they are not to be caught. RESULTS
