BUSINESSES throughout the North West are being urged to look forward to European Week for Safety, Hygiene and Health at work which takes place between October 7 and 13.
The principal aims of the week are to emphasise the economic as well as social importance of high standards of health and safety management at work.
Health and Safety Executive Inspector Jerry Mawhood, who is co-ordinating HSE's Good Health is Good Business campaign in the North West, says: "We would like firms to look forward now to holding an event or activity during the week, stressing not only the obvious social benefits of well thought out health and safety arrangements, but also the economic benefits that can be obtained.
"Sound health and safety arrangements should be seen not as a cost but as a benefit."
Among the types of activities with a health and safety theme that are being suggested for the week are:
Safety and health audits; Risk assessment audits; Seminars and workshops; Information and training sessions; Company open days; Exhibitions and displays; Hazard spotting in the workplace; Staff suggestion schemes.
To find out more about the European Week, companies should contact CFL Vision at PO Box 35, Weatherby, LS23 7EX, to ensure that they receive more information and a free copy of the Make Health Your Business video featuring Sir John Harvey Jones.
