POLICE are hunting two hit and run drivers today after a teenager and a pensioner were injured in separate incidents over the weekend.
Michael Kay, 16, was tossed in the air by the impact when he was struck by a car outside The Tavern on Wigan Road, Hunger Hill on Saturday night. The shocked teenager claims the car accelerated towards him before the impact.
And a 66-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after the car she was travelling in was hit by another vehicle in High Street, Walshaw, Bury, yesterday morning.
Michael, a Bolton School pupil from West Meade, Standish, had been for a night out with school mates when the accident happened at about 11.30pm.
Today his mother Millie said: "He's been very, very lucky. He was tossed through the air when the car hit him.
"From what he can remember he saw a car in the distance and thought he had plenty of time to cross the road. But then he said the car seemed to accelerate and the next thing he knew he was on the floor." The car did not stop. Michael has a broken left arm and seven stitches in wounds on his face. His left eye is also swollen. He is in a comfortable condition in Bolton General Hospital.
In the Bury incident, the pensioner, who has not been named suffered chest injuries when the Fiat Panda she was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a Ford Escort XR3i at the junction of High Street and Walshaw Road at 9am.
The driver of the Escort and three other men ran away from the scene leaving the injured woman and the woman driver to fend for themselves.
The woman was detained overnight at Bury General Hospital where she was in a "satisfactory" condition today. Inquiries into both incidents are continuing.
Traffic police have appealed for witnesses to both incidents. Anyone with information should contact them on 0161 872 5050.
