KEVIN Glendon's Radcliffe Boro put up a terrific show in an entertaining scoreless draw with a strong Everton X1 in the Frankie Bunn Testimonial game at Stainton Park.

Club secretary David Murgatroyd summed up the occasion when he said: "It was a great day for the Boro and a superb occasion for Frankie Bunn.

"The Everton side was full of experienced first team and Pontins League players including Paul Rideout, Vinny Samways and Matt Jackson and it was an impressive show from our lads to earn a 0-0 draw.

"Frankie was highly delighted with the whole thing. He played a full game, showing he is back to full fitness and afterwards he thanked all the club directors and Everton officials for organising this event for him." A crowd of over 300 turned out to pay tribute to the former Oldham Athletic striker who was forced out of the full time pro game by a bad knee injury but who thankfully is now looking fully fit and committed to the Boro push for UniBond Premier Division status this season.

ATHERTON Colls went down 4-1 at home to Runcorn, the side relegated from the Vauxhall Conference to the UniBond Premier Division but the Alder House lads certainly did themselves proud against class opposition.

Manager Steve Walton said: "Runcorn sent a tremendous side down to us. They included former Bolton Wanderer Simon Rudge, former Everton player Kevin Langley and Atherton LR's star performer of last season Joey Dunn."

Colls move on to play Flixton, the NWCL Division One champions and now promoted to the UniBond Division One, tomorrow night at Alder House, kick off 7.30pm. NEXT Sunday's Westhoughton Charity Cup final will be fought out between Micky Farnworth's Tempest United and Steve Vychinski's Little Hulton United after both side's came from behind to win through in close-fought semi-finals yesterday. Tempest beat Hindley Town 2-1 and Little Hulton despatched Salford City by the same scoreline.
