This is not the way ahead
On Ulster's streets
Another's dead
Bullets fly as women cry
Angry flames light up the sky.
This is not the way ahead
That's for sure
I've heard it said
Shattered hopes of peace have died
The man with the bomb again has lied. This is not the way ahead
Children watching
Easily led
Mindless bigots on each side
Think that life's worth less than pride.
This is not the way ahead
No tranquil scenes
Just war instead
Don't want to love but to despise
With hatred in each other's eyes. This is not the way ahead
All despairing
Doom and dread
Each man is some mother's son
Think of this, put down the gun.
