BOLTON MP David Young tied the knot and was back at work almost before the confetti had time to hit the ground.
Soon after the Bolton register office ceremony, the Bolton South Labour MP went to meet his constituents at a surgery in the town hall. Luckily his bride Vera Dingwall is a veteran campaigner for the Labour Party and understands all too well the demands of a politician's life.
She says she did not mind waiting a week until Parliament broke up before going on a working honeymoon in Sri Lanka.
Political colleagues knew of the romance but were stunned to read about the surprise wedding in the BEN. But on his return Mr Young, aged 67, insisted: "We did not do it secretly, we just did not tell anyone. We both decided we wanted a quiet wedding, it is as simple as that." The new Mrs Young added: "We did not say anything to anybody because we did not want publicity or fuss. I booked the flowers in my own name so there was nothing secret about it."
Two friends of the bride acted as witnesses at the ceremony. And instead of a champagne reception the newly-weds settled for a cup of tea at a friend's house before Mr Young went back to work.
