SIR: On a recent visit to a cafe in Bolton, my husband and I received a shock, when we were charged 60p for one slice of toast each, which was so thin you did not know you had eaten it. It was 75p for a cup of tea. We both know that in other cafes it is much cheaper. What a profit there is at 60p for one slice of thin toast.
Where are the controls in prices? Everyone is charging what they like.
How can we compete with it all? The public always pay in the end, if you are silly enough, as we were. I believe a sliced loaf is about 25 slices, and at 60p a slice what a profit.
