SIR: I admire the efforts of Mr C Jackson in trying to find a solution to children playing in the streets.
But it would seem from his letter (Viewpoint July 15) that he thinks because we criticise noisy street footballers, we have a dislike for children in general.
I can assure him this is absolutely untrue.
I am on very friendly terms with most of the children in our Grove.
I take the trouble to talk to these children, and they reward me with their genuine friendship.
Because these children have caring, thoughtful parents, they don't play noisy street games when neighbours need a bit of peace and quiet.
I do understand how difficult it must be, trying to find somewhere safe for young children to play, but this is the responsibility of the parents, however difficult or time consuming it may be, and to let then run wild in the street is no answer.
