SIR: I am writing in response to the article 'Is this Advert too spooky?', (BEN, July 23) and in particular to the comments made by the spokesman for the Conservative Party Central Office.
I agree with Mrs Fox-Braddock, who rang the Conservatives to ask for an explanation of their latest campaign slogan, that the poster is frightening to young children. More frightening still is the seemingly flippant treatment and comments she received in reply.
The government should be concerned about all its citizens, even the young, who are after all potential voters. The attitude shown by this incident, along with the constant stream of policies aimed at spoiling the well-being of young people; such as the pressure upon schools and colleges to increase class sizes and cut staff, the withdrawal of benefits and decent grants, VAT on the necessities of life, the lack of job opportunities and no prospect of a secure future, must lead many people to question the Conservatives' right to govern this country for much longer.
To young people and old alike I would say this, "Vote Tory? Same old story?"
