AN anonymous £250 donation boosted a weekend charity event's proceeds to £1,000.
Jack and Lilian Chamberlain organised a rounder tournament involving 16 local teams at Astley Bridge Cricket Club.
Jack wanted to raise as much as possible for research at Manchester Royal Infirmary into Myeloma, a form of leukaemia.
The day was a great success, played in glorious sunshine, in the best spirit, with Fishpool from Bury beating Hatfield A in the final.
A large raffle and auction boosted funds to £750.
But, said Jack, a supporter of Bolton rounders - who wants to remain anonymous - offered to make up the figure to £1,000. "We were absolutely overwhelmed by this wonderful gesture," he said.
"It was a great day, and we're glad that it raised so much for Myeloma research."
At the end of the tournament, a cheque was presented to Ken and Irene Coward on behalf of the charity.
