A cuddly bundle was left to die at a Bolton beauty spot.
A woman out walking her dogs found the cross Alsatian puppy inside a bag which had been tied at the top.
The bag had been dumped in bushes at Crompton Lodges, Moses Gate.
The woman who found him contacted Bolton RSPCA and the six-week old black and tan pup was taken into the charity's care.
Now the RSPCA is not only looking for a good home for the puppy, but is also trying to trace where it came from.
Dorothy Clemmett, who acts as a "foster mother" for RSPCA dogs, believed the dog must have been left to die.
"He was found in bushes and in a bag which had been tied. He was not left in a place where he would be found, or in something which he could get out of," she said.
Bolton RSPCA secretary Kathy Kay hoped someone would be willing to give the puppy a home.
"We are also trying to find out who dumped the puppy and hope someone will recognise it or will know of a bitch which has recently given birth to puppies."
Anyone who can offer the dog a home, or give the RSPCA any information, should ring the Bolton office on 521160 or Dorothy Clemmett on 706556.
