POLICE forensic experts were today carrying out a detailed examination of a bone found inside a training shoe on the banks of the River Ribble.

A farmer found the Reebok trainer, a sock and the remains near Marsh Lane, Longton, on the outskirts of Leyland yesterday.

Experts were still undertaking tests this lunchtime.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: "It is not yet clear whether it is a human bone. Inquiries are at a very early stage."
