We had planned to take a short vacation,

For some fun and relaxation,

At a seaside destination

Not very far away.

For weeks we had been anticipating

All the fun that was awaiting,

Lying in the beach, rotating,

Toasting as we lay. Water, oil and tyres inspected,

Paintwork polished and perfected.

Not a thing had been neglected,

For our holiday.

The big day arrived, now no more waiting,

No time to lie procrastinating.

Then suddenly, how exasperating.

The clouds were dark and grey.

Through the bedroom window, peering,

The dark clouds seemed to stare back, leering.

Then spots of rain began appearing,

To really make my day.

I stood and watched with agitation,

As the bleak precipitation

Turned my thoughts to consternation;

There would be no sun today.

But no need for all this fretting,

Maybe we would get a wetting.

But we'll have fun, what's the betting?

On our holiday. Brian Derbyshire
