HIGHWAY chiefs want £240,000 to improve car parking at rail stations throughout Bolton.
They have asked the government for cash to improve the car parks and set up park and ride schemes at smaller district stations.
The Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority have put in a separate bid for government cash to turn a former goods yard at Bolton Central into a car park.
The GMPTA plan is part of a £400,000 scheme to refurbish seven stations, including Bolton.
They will create the car park and refurbish toilet and waiting facilities if station owners, Railtrack, agree to repair the platforms and canopies at the station.
Both Bolton and the GMPTA will have to wait until just before Christmas to see if the government agree to fund their plans.
