PUNTERS calling in to the betting shop this week could help abandoned or abused greyhounds.
A charity race night is to be held this Friday, September 13, at the Horwich Reform Club on Winter Hey Lane in aid of Lexus Greyhound Rescue and tickets are on sale at local branches of Ladbrokes.
As reported in the BEN, Horwich woman Pat Graham founded the Lexus charity and is continuously looking after abandoned greyhounds in her own home.
"Unscrupulous owners run dogs for as long as they can, kick them out when they are too old or no good, and get another one," said Pat of George Street.
The charity night, which begins at 7.45pm will consist of eight races, tote betting, raffles, and bet and spin. Tickets are £1 which include a pastie and pea supper. The first race is at 8pm.
Anyone who can't get to a Ladbrokes shop before the event can pay on the door.
Although the evening is primarily aimed at raising funds, it is hoped that a spin off will be that people will give homes to some of the abandoned dogs or even offer to walk the animals.
