THE CHILD Support Agency will come under fire at this month's Liberal Democrat Conference at Brighton. Cllr Barbara Ronson, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton West, will be moving a motion on behalf of the local group attacking the activities of the CSA.

Cllr Mrs Ronson said that many local people who have suffered from the unfairness of the CSA have approached the Lib Dems in support of the stand taken on the matter by Liz Lynne, MP for Rochdale. The motion to conference calls for:

The complete repeal of the 1991 Child Support Act.

Child maintenance cases now determined by the CSA to be settled by a unified family court system, which has long been supported by the Lib/Dems.

The unified family court system to settle child maintenance payments at the same time as custody and other matters resulting from a divorce or separation.

The court also to determine child benefit maintenance payments to be put on an individual basis but subject to general court guidelines and the right of either party to seek a review of the maintenance settlement.

The ethos of the unified family court system to be putting the welfare of all children first.

Cllr Ronson said: "I have seen and heard first hand some of the problems which have been caused by the CSA. We hope to put pressure on the Government through this motion to get the necessary changes made as soon as possible."
