AN electrical fault is believed to have caused a fire at a Farnworth repair business last night.

The alarm was raised when smoke was spotted coming from ABP Domestic Appliance Warehouse Limited, a single storey building on Albert Road.

Firefighters forced open a roller shutter to fight the blaze. ABP repair and sell washing machines and the fire started in a pile of plastic and rubber spares.

Firemen removed slates from the roof to fight the fire inside.

Station Officer David Knowles at Farnworth Fire Station said: "It is possible that the fire was caused by the failure of insulation on an electrical circuit in the area of the spares." A fan was used to disperse the smoke in the warehouse. Only a small area inside and a section of the roof were damaged.

Washing machines in the immediate area of the blaze were fire damaged and the remainder of the building and its contents affected by smoke.
