COUNCIL chiefs have launched a new attack in their ambitious bid to bring the famous Imperial War Museum to Bolton.
The battle seemed lost at the end of last month when a survey showed poor ground conditions at a site in the Moses Gate Country Park.
But now a new site has been found at nearby Singing Clough, the site of a former tip, at the junction of St Peter's Way and the M61 at Kearsley.
Cllr Bob Howarth, Bolton Council leader, said: "Disappointment has turned to determination.
"We were very sorry when a borehole survey dashed our hopes for the original site and we had no alternative but to put it to one side because of the extra costs. "Much more work has yet to be done, but it looks as though we are back in the frame for this important development."
The Imperial War Museum wants to set up a Northern branch and the six towns are competing for the multi-million pound development.
Bolton has to submit its bid by Friday and a decision on which town has been chosen is expected by Christmas.
