SIR: We would like to applaud the high quality and artistic standards of the Bolton Octagon Youth Theatre. Recently, the group performed a choreographed account of the 1896 Winter Hill Trespass, following the commemorative walk on Winter Hill.
Their moving and dramatic account drew the attention of the audience to the struggle of ordinary people for free access to uncultivated land. They reminded us in a finely delivered conclusion, of the gross inequalities that still exist (one per cent of the population own 75 per cent of British land), and how we must continue the campaign for the right to roam.
Who suggested young people today lack idealism!
