IT'S a knockout . . . Bolton Council leader and City Challenge chairman Cllr Bob Howarth and resident Margaret Corkill started the ball rolling on the demolition of the Brownlow Fold shopping precinct at Halliwell.
The site will be redeveloped for housing under a scheme spearheaded by Bolton City Challenge.
The crumbling, vandalised centre has been a blot on the landscape for years and members of the Brownlow Fold Residents' Association, who have campaigned for action over the centre, were there to celebrate the start of demolition.
As well as 28 new houses, some space will be used for shops.
