HEART-swap Bury man Gerry Bourne will be special guest at his local Women's Institute next week when he receives a donation for the charity which helped save his life.
Gerry, aged 57, was given his new heart in July 1991 and will represent Wythenshawe Hospital's New Heart-New Start Appeal when he receives £220 from the Greenmount WI at Holcombe Brook.
The WI nominated the appeal as its charity for a year and raised the cash through a coffee morning and produce evening.
Committee members Betty Yates said: "I nominated New Heart-New Start because my late husband had a valve replacement operation at the hospital and they were wonderful to him."
The appeal has its sights set on its Mission 2000 fund-raising targets to raise money for operations over and above those funded by the Government and to develop a dedicated transplant research programme.
