AN unusual event in Bolton next month is turning into a model success for a large group of local people.
They are the hopefuls who, just four months ago, turned up at a mass audition for models for a forthcoming charity fashion show at Bolton's Albert Halls.
And, not only have the 40 successful adults and 10 children worked so hard practising twice a week for the show that they've acquired professional skills, but the show for ChildLine is already a total sell-out.
In fact, organiser Julieanne Embley has had to arrange a second show on the same night - Sunday, October 13 - just to cope with demand to see the amateur catwalk champs! "They've been an absolutely brilliant group," enthused Julieanne. "They've met each Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons for three and four hours at a time since May and worked really hard."
Julieanne, who has staged charity fashion shows in other towns, wasn't quite sure what the response would be in Bolton when she started planning the event. But she was stunned when so many applied at the auditions.
She enlisted the help of local firms Ciro Citterio, Bhs, Velvet, Mothercare, Black Design, Classic Brides and Classic Formal Wear and Pumpkins of Manchester to provide outfits for all the adults and children. Boots No.7 is doing the make-up, Hair by Marcus the hairstylist and Felicity Hat Hire providing some stunning hats.
Maxim's Bar and Dawn Dawson's Dance Studio have provided rehearsal rooms, Dave Evans and Dave Inns of Ritzy nightclub music and compere services, Ian Greenhalgh lighting, Capricorn IV stage-sets and Creative View poster and artwork design.
Julieanne also wants to pass on thanks to staff at the Albert Halls and the BEN for their help.
But she already knows that the stars of the show will be the models themselves, who have spent so much time learning routines and putting the final polish to what promises to be a super cabaret-style fashion show.
"In fact, it's already been so successful that it would be a shame to waste all this experience and not put on another charity show next year," says a smiling Julieanne.
"We'll just have to wait and see!"
Tickets for the second show at the Albert Halls are £3 each from the Box Office, from Mothercare, Felicity Hat Hire or by ringing Julieanne on 0385-581748.
