SIR: Congratulations to the Winter Hill trespassers of 1896 who ensured that the will of the ordinary people prevailed and to all those who commemorated their victory on Sunday.
However, let's not forget that today, 100 years later, there is still a cause to fight for, a battle to be won and our heritage saved for future generations. Let us hope that in 2096 Bolton will be celebrating our victory over UK Waste and a number of influential Bolton councillors who planned to destroy Red Moss - recognised internationally as a Site of Special Scientific Interest - by dumping 9,000,000 tones of Greater Manchester's rubbish on it.
