RADCLIFFE BORO 0 MARINE 2 UNIBOND Premier Division side Marine proved to be just that little bit too good on the day for Radcliffe Boro in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
Roly Howard's side came out on top in a scrappy, sometimes ill-tempered affair, by a two-goal margin.
John Gautrey got the first for the visitors on 23 minutes and substitute Mick McDonough put it beyond doubt with 30 minutes remaining.
Boro battled well but lacked real penetration going forward, although Kevin Glendon and his side could point to two strong penalty appeals turned away that could have made all the difference.
Boro winger Joe Connor picked up the Man of the Match nomination.
ATHERTON LR 1 ILKESTON TOWN 0
ATHERTON LR rounded off a superb week with an FA Cup home win over a strong Ilkeston Town side.
Some of the Atherton players must have felt as though they had run a marathon after two extra time games on the Monday and Thursday to defeat preliminary round opponents Liversedge. LR manager Dave Morris appears able to produce that little bit extra for the cup and he did it again on Saturday.
He stuck by the Lee Cryer-Steve Gavin striking partnership that had worked so hard during the two games and left Gavin McDonald on the bench. It paid off on 85 minutes when Cryer ghosted past two defenders and pulled the ball back for Paul Griffin to fire home a superb winner.
BILLINGHAM SYNTHONIA 1 ATHERTON COLLS 0
"WE were ever so unlucky," says Atherton Colls joint manager Steve Walton.
"We bossed the game for long periods and to say that we had 70 to 80 per cent of the play would be no exaggeration. Andy Pendlebury at the back and Tony Pemberton in mid field were outstanding but we just couldn't get the ball in the back of the net and they hit us with that one vital strike." MIDDLEWICH ATHELTIC 2 DAISY HILL 0
SEVEN first team players injured and striker Danny Mills crying off just an hour before the game hit Daisy Hill hard.
The NWCL Division Two defeat at Middlewich was a big disappointment for manager Jimmy Hulton and his players as their efforts deserved better.
Yet again it was the Daisy Hill's Achilles heel of conceding goals in the second half (65 and 89) that caused the damage.
