A HOME defeat in the open cup a fortnight ago by Hindley Green has certainly injected a vital spark into AFC Walkers' search for league honours in the BOLTON COMBINATION Premier Division.
Saturday saw a superb result for the Cotefield Avenue outfit with goals from Bond, Halton, Foye, Keegan and Harrison earning a 5-2 victory at British Aerospace.
The win puts Walkers top of the table with 13 points from five played and a big zero in the defeats column.
Keeping up the hot pace at the top of the table, a point behind from one less played and a maximum return from four games, are Seedfield Sports.
The latest triumph for the league new boys was a superb 3-1 home win over Blackrod Town with goals from Davidson, Horrocks and Boyle. Matt Toone was the five-goal hero for Hindsford in an 8-1 win at Ambassadors.
What an amazing week for Ainsworth! An incredible 23-1 win last weekend over Partridge Thistle, followed by a 2-0 shock defeat by British Aerospace on Monday and then, at the weekend, back to goalscoring form with a 7-3 home win over Hindley Green. Karl Dalton enjoyed a memorable second half with no less than five goals to add to the nine he got last week.
Previously unbeaten Atherton C&N lost that proud record to a Britton only goal of the game on 15 minutes at Walkden AFC.
The Premier Division's other new boys, Kersal Lads, clocked up a 9-2 thumping win at Summerseat after being level 2-2 at half time.
Division One sees three sides riding high on 10 points from four games. Stoneclough's home game against Hindley Green Reserves fell foul of the non appearance of the referee and will be re-arranged.
Kersal Vale won 3-2 at home to Tyldesley United with Lee Davenport (two) and Colin Peterson doing enough with first half goals to just about combat a brave second half fightback from the visitors and two goals from Lee Jones. Adlington Athletic complete the trio of clubs at the top after a 4-2 home win over Mitchell Shackleton.
Tottington United bounced back from an 11-0 thumping at Stoneclough in midweek to win 4-3 at Brindle Heath Lads Club, Judd and Law notching a brace apiece.
Striker Simon Hampson took his tally for the week to eight when he notched a hat-trick for Atherton S&S in the 6-0 Second Division humbling of British Aerospace Res. This helped the table-toppers to extend their winning sequence to five games.
Ambassadors Reserves atoned somewhat for the first team's heavy defeat with a 10-2 win at Tyldesley United Reserves, Mike Shaw leading the way with a hat-trick.
