RUTH Mauriello went to the Italia Conti stage school at 16 and loved it. It led to her working as a dancer, actress and model with such stars as Jim Davidson, Danny La Rue and Little and Large. She interrupted her showbusiness career to look after her two young sons, Lloyd and Leo.
And she realised that, for many children, part-time theatre training was appropriate and is opening a theatre workshop in Bury on October 5.
The Treading The Boards workshop will be at Bury Church of England High School every Saturday morning for children aged six to 16.
Ruth started dancing at the age of four and attended the Lois Booth School of Dancing in Bolton. It is not surprising she was drawn to the theatre. Her father, Bernard, is director/choreographer with Farnworth AODS and her mother, Doreen, is a very active member of the society. Ruth frequently appears in Farnworth's productions.
Three professionals will be teaching at her workshops. Colin Trickett, who recently appeared with Phantom of the Opera in Edinburgh, will take the singing classes. Claire Simmons will be in charge of dance and Jo Bernstein will be teaching drama.
Ruth also plans to set up an agency for auditions if some of the children want to work.
"At the end of each year, we shall be putting on a show," Ruth said.
Ruth may be contacted on 0161 797 6134.
