COLIN Todd saluted his Burnden goal stars today for buying him time on his trawl through the transfer market.
Nathan Blake and John McGinlay have responded to the Wanderers boss's well-chronicled search for a striker by spearheading the most prolific attack in Britain.
Now, after seeing Wanderers storm to the top of Division One on the strength of the club's best start to a season for 19 years, Todd is playing it cool.
"It's no secret that I've been looking for additional striking power," the manager said. "But while the existing players continue to average almost three goals a game, there is certainly no pressure on me to rush into the market place."
Goals have come from all departments as Wanderers have netted 17 goals in seven games, but it's the strikers who have given Todd special satisfaction. Blake bagged his fifth goal in as many games in Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Porstmouth and, while the ever-reliable McGinlay is currently trailing on two, he has been playing well in a hard-working partnership.
"Managers are always looking to strengthen their squads and strikers are always at a premium," Todd added, "but I'm quite happy with what I've got at the moment.
"I'll continue to look around and , if a striker or a player in any other position was available, who I think could would benefit the squad, I would be interested. After all, with Mixu Paatelainen still not available, I only have Scott Taylor who is really breathing down the necks of John and Nathan.
"Even so they are doing particularly well. They are both capable of getting goals and all I'm looking for now is for that to continue."
Wanderers, who have big financial resources to back the manager in the market, topped up the kitty today when Wayne Burnett's loan deal at Huddersfield was made permanent with £150,000 changing hands.
While one reserve team regular left, another returned. Stuart Whittaker cut short his month's loan at Wigan Athletic after talks with Latics boss John Deehan. Todd explained that the winger hadn't been happy at Springfield Park.
Simon Coleman, back in training after missing the start of the season with a calf injury, is being considered for a comeback in the reserves at home to Leeds on Thursday.
Soren Frandsen, brother of Bolton's Per, gets a reserve team outing with Swansea tonight as part of a week's trial at the Vetch Field.
