COUNCIL chiefs are battling to have their say about ambitious plans for a £16 million re-vamp of Lever Park.
They are worried that they could find themselves voted off a charitable trust which will oversee the development on the outskirts of Horwich.
North West Water has unveiled plans which include a facelift for the famous terraced gardens laid by Lord Leverhulme more than 100 years ago.
There will also be a visitor centre which will tell "the story of water" and many upgraded walkways and cycle tracks.
But Cllr Gerry Riley, leisure services committee chairman, said at last night's Bolton Council meeting that they are outnumbered on the charitable trust by North West Water in discussions.
"We could be voted off in three years time the way it stands at the moment and we have raised an objection along with Chorley Council and Lancashire County Council.
Meanwhile, Horwich Liberal Democrat Cllr Bob Ronson called for more public consultation.
"Most people do seem to be quite keen on the scheme, but there is a feeling that there has not been much consultation."
