COLIN Todd is aiming to clinch the deal that will put Anders Limpar in the Wanderers attack at Bradford on Saturday.
The Burnden boss was holding talks with the Swedish international today in an effort to have his loan transfer from Everton registered before tomorrow's noon deadline.
If the move is completed in time, Limpar will make his debut at Valley Parade where Wanderers will be hoping to consolidate their position as Division One leaders.
The 31-year-old former Arsenal winger will join the Burnden squad initially for a month and Todd will use the loan period to assess whether Limpar can significantly strengthen his promotion prospects.
But he knows that, if he wishes to make the deal permanent, he will have to match the player's substantial contract demands as well as Everton's £750,000 asking price.
Wanderers re-emerged as the front-runners in the race when Limpar, desperate for regular first team football to revive his international career, said he would prefer a move to Bolton rather than QPR because he wants to stay near his Southport home.
Todd, who enquired about Limpar's availability during last season's Premiership campaign, sees the out-of-favour Everton man as a quality recruit who will strengthen his squad and help capitalise on the impressive start to the season.
His arrival is likely to be at the expense of David Lee, who has been operating wide on the right of the Wanderers midfield.
Todd spoke in general of the difficult selection decisions managers are forced to make after seeing his side play out a scoreless draw at Bristol City last night in the first leg of their second round Coca-Cola Cup tie.
"Managers have to make difficult, unpopular decisions from time to time," he acknowledged. "That's what we get paid for. You have a squad of players and you just can't please them all."
Simon Coleman may have to wait another week before he makes his comeback. The central defender, sidelined with a calf injury he picked up in pre-season, had been lined up for tonight's reserve team game at home to Leeds United (7pm). Todd is reluctant to rush him back too soon.
